Frequently Asked Questions
Housings & Compatibility
Which housing fits my camera?
Every housing is built for a specific camera body or family — the compatible models are listed on each product page. Shooting Sony, Canon, Fujifilm or Panasonic, mirrorless or compact, there is almost certainly a Sea Frogs or Salted Line housing for you. Not sure? Email [email protected] with your camera model and lenses, and we will confirm the exact housing, port and accessories before you order.
What is a port, and which one do I need?
The port is the interchangeable “window” in front of your lens: flat ports suit macro and standard lenses, dome ports restore the natural field of view for wide-angle lenses. The right port depends on your lens diameter and length — download our free port compatibility chart or ask us and we will match it for you.
What comes in the box with a housing?
A typical Sea Frogs / Salted Line housing ships with the housing body, pre-installed main O-ring, a spare O-ring, silicone grease, desiccant packs, a hand strap, port cover (when a port is included) and the manual. Kits that bundle a port, shutter grip or pistol grip list every included item on the product page — check the “What’s included” section before ordering.
Can I use my housing for snorkeling, surf or pool shoots — not just scuba?
Absolutely. A housing rated to 60m/195ft is just as happy at 1m in the pool or in the surf zone. For surf photography consider adding a pistol grip for one-handed shooting, and rinse thoroughly after every salt session — sand is the main enemy of O-ring grooves.
Care & Maintenance
How do I look after the O-rings?
Before every dive: remove the main O-ring, wipe the groove with a lint-free cloth, check the ring for nicks, sand or hairs, apply a thin film of the recommended silicone grease, and re-seat it evenly. Never use sunscreen-covered fingers. Rinse the housing in fresh water after every salt dive, and replace O-rings at the first sign of wear — they are inexpensive consumables that protect thousands of dollars of camera.
Should I test the housing before my trip?
Absolutely — and always without the camera first. Do a pool, bathtub or shallow-water dip with the housing sealed and empty, then check the interior is bone dry. If your housing supports a vacuum leak-detection system, pull a vacuum and confirm it holds pressure overnight before you travel. We recommend ordering at least 1–2 weeks before a trip so you have time for a relaxed test.
How do I prevent fogging inside the housing?
Fog appears when humid air trapped inside the housing hits cold water. Always close the housing in a dry, air-conditioned room (never on the boat deck), use fresh desiccant inserts, and give the housing a few minutes to acclimatize before descending. If your model supports a vacuum system, pulling a vacuum also removes most of the moist air.
How should I store my housing between trips?
Rinse in fresh water, dry with a lint-free cloth, remove the main O-ring, and store the housing unlatched so the seals are not compressed. Keep the O-ring in a clean zip bag with a light film of grease, away from sunlight and heat. Before the next trip, inspect and re-grease the O-ring and do a quick empty-housing dunk test.
Ordering & Shipping
How fast will I get my order?
Orders are dispatched within 1–2 business days and delivered by USPS or UPS in 3–7 business days across the contiguous U.S. (5–10 for Alaska and Hawaii). Standard shipping is free on orders over $100, and $9.95 otherwise. Orders over $300 ship insured; over $500 with signature confirmation. Full details are in our Shipping Policy.
Do you ship internationally?
Not yet — we currently ship to all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia, including P.O. Boxes. If you are outside the U.S., email [email protected] and we will let you know as soon as international shipping opens up. We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay.
Can I change or cancel my order?
Email [email protected] as soon as possible — we can usually change items, addresses or cancel entirely if the order has not been dispatched (orders ship within 1–2 business days). After dispatch, the standard 30-day return process applies instead.
Which payment methods do you accept?
Visa, Mastercard, American Express, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay — all processed by PCI-compliant payment providers over an encrypted connection. We never see or store your full card number. Florida orders are charged applicable sales tax at checkout.
Returns & Warranty
What is your return policy?
You have 30 days from delivery to return any item that has not been used underwater, complete and in its original packaging — no restocking fees. Start the process by emailing [email protected] for an RMA number. Defective or incorrectly shipped items are returned at our cost. Full details in Returns & Exchanges.
What does the warranty cover?
Housings and ports carry a 1-year manufacturer warranty against defects in materials and workmanship; O-rings are covered for 90 days against manufacturing defects. Flooding caused by a verified manufacturing defect is covered; flooding caused by improper sealing, a dirty or damaged O-ring, or exceeding the rated depth is not — see our Returns page for how flood claims are assessed. Contact [email protected] to start a claim.
What should I do if my housing floods?
Do not open it underwater. Surface calmly, rinse the outside with fresh water, dry, then remove the camera. Photograph the housing interior, the O-ring exactly as found, and the seal groove before cleaning anything — those photos are the key evidence for a claim. Then email [email protected] with your order number and the photos, and we will assess it quickly and fairly.
How do I start a warranty claim?
Email [email protected] with your order number, photos or a short video of the problem, and a description of how the product was used and maintained. We respond within 1 business day with the next steps — usually a repair, replacement part, or full replacement, depending on the issue.
